Geneva "Jean" Mary Markel's Obituary
Geneva "Jean" Mary (Rumenapp) Markel, age 93, of China Twp., passed away April 24, 2022. She was born March 15, 1929 to Frank and Cecelia Rumenapp. She was later raised by Joe and Mary Rumenapp. She married Clair Markel on November 25, 1948. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1998.
She farmed for over 50 years, belonged to Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City and was very active with the Daughters of Isabella. She also was a 4-H Leader and member of the Extension Club for many years.
Jean enjoyed playing euchre, square dancing, polkas and gambling trips with relatives. She also enjoyed traveling, she wintered in Florida for over 30 years and she traveled to Italy, Germany and trips out West.
She is survived by her daughters; Rosemary, Melanie (William), Kimberly (Dan) and her sons; Robert (Annette) and Louis (Beth) as well as 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters in-law; Sylvia Dietlin, Leona Markel, Janice Markel, Alice Kaminski, Agnes Rumenapp along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by sons; Franz and Norbert, brothers; Robert, Gordon, Norbert, Andrew, Anthony and sister; Margaret.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Our Lady On the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will be at Smith Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. along with at church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
