Gary S. Mrowiec's Obituary
Gary S. Mrowiec, age 73, of Cottrellville Twp., passed away at home on January 3, 2026. He was born in Detroit on July 16, 1952 to the late Steve and Helen Mrowiec.
He married Joan Garrett on January 6, 1978 in Clawson.
Gary worked for General Motors for over 30 years and retired in 2001.
He was a true car nut. He was very proud of his longtime project of his 1958 Ranchero. He continued to make improvements throughout the years. Gary was also very proud of his 1963 Corvette.
His greatest priority was always his family, and he fought to remain with those he loved for as long as he could. While some people are remembered as people of few words, that description does not apply to him. Anyone fortunate enough to be included in his phone contacts knows how much he valued staying connected and how he could talk your ear off. Seeing his name appear on your caller ID often prompted the question, Do I have an hour to talk right now?
In retirement he and Joan wintered in Pinellas Park, Florida and enjoyed the community there. They also enjoyed boating and lived on their boat locally for 3 years.
They also rescued many dogs throughout the years and enjoyed their company tremendously.
Gary was also a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Fair Haven and Hazel Park.
He is survived by his loving wife; Joan Mrowiec, his children; Shannon Mrowiec, Gary (Lisa) Mrowiec and Sherry (Brian) Cassidy.
He is also survived by his grandchildren; Anthony, Aiden, Zoe, Alex, Eli, Lucy and his furry friend; Brownie.
Also survived by his siblings; Jim (Sue) Mrowiec, twin sister; Diane (Rick) Dobbs, John (Teri) Mrowiec, Debbie (Paul) Pollack, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Suzanne Mrowiec and best friend; Lee Wright.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles located at 7542 Palms Rd., Ira, MI 48032.
