Mrs. G. Diane Shafer's Obituary
G. Diane Shafer, age 68, passed away February 4, 2015. She was born March 24, 1946 to Visa (Wahls) and Harold Kuecken in Port Huron. Her father and sister could not call the baby Gloria so she was known as Diane from birth. She married Patrick Shafer April 15, 1966 and lived most of her life in St. Clair.
Diane graduated from St. Clair High School in 1964 and the Dental Assisting program at the University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1965. She worked for thirteen years for Dr. Roger Thompson and Dr. Gary Schroyer retiring in 1998. She was an active community volunteer serving on boards of The Port Huron Musicale and the Friends of the St. Clair Library. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and participated in the annual parish festival. Diane enjoyed her grandchildren, walking, reading, dancing, knitting and playing cards.
Diane is survived by her spouse, Patrick; sons: David, Mark (special friend Denine Westrick), Paul (fiancée Monica Thompson). Grandchildren: Morgan, Brennan, and Peyton Shafer and Trevor and Dakota Shafer. Monica’s daughter, Melissa Thompson. Sisters: Phyllis Langston-Glazier and Janice (John) Rands and brother: Marvin Kuecken. Sister in law, Betty Shafer. Several cousins, nieces and nephews and special cousin Sally Delore and special friend Bonnie Landschoot. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harold and Visa Kuecken DeLong; stepfather, George DeLong; in-laws Mathias and Gertrude Shafer and brother in law, Bill Shafer.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be Saturday February 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to mass.
