Dr. Fred L. Nowland's Obituary
Dr. Fred L. Nowland, age 88, of East China Twp., died March 14, 2013.
He was born February 15, 1925 in Ann Arbor to Chester and Esther Nowland.
Fred served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Following the war he played semi-pro softball in an Ann Arbor League where he also held the fifth highest batting average. He received degrees from Michigan State Normal College, University of Michigan and Wayne State University.
He finished his 36 year career in education as the Assistant Superintendent/Director of Special Education at Macomb ISD. He received the Beekman Administrator of the Year Award in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Donna (Cooper) Nowland, daughter; Deb Nowland, son; William (Soraya) Nowland, grandchildren; Patrick (Kelsey), Lina, Lucas and Gina, great grandchild; Patton, brother; Richard (Rita) Nowland, niece; Liz and nephew; Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday March 17th at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours are Saturday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
