Francesca "Frankie" Mortinger's Obituary
Francesca “Frankie” Xavier Mortinger (nee Kujda), age 88 of China Twp., has walked her final path to the woods, (or passed away due to complications of dementia/cancer) at River District Hospital in East China Twp., on September 15, 2018.
Frankie was born in China Twp., Mich. to the late Albert and Aniela Kujda on March 6, 1930. Born the 9th of 11 children to polish immigrants, she was proud to be a 1st generation Polish-American. Some of her greatest achievements included being the first of her family to graduate High School (St. Clair High School Class of 1949) during the Great Depression Era and regaining ownership of the Homestead.
In mid-life, she found her niche as a waitress for many years working at Elias Chop House and the Reef in Port Huron and 32 years at the River Crab Restaurant in St. Clair.
Strong willed, vibrant, with an outgoing sense of humor. She enjoyed gardening, mushrooming, sunbathing, reading, board and card games and loved “her woods”.
She is survived by her sister, Annie (Kujda) DelPomo, China Twp.; sons, James (Laurie) Mortinger of Hays, Kansas, John (Betty) Mortinger of China Twp. and Robin (Susan) Mortinger of Casco Twp. 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, especially Kaye Robyn Gibala, Mary Kuyda and Jim Fischer.
Honoring Frankie’s final wishes no visitation or funeral services will be held. A private family graveside service will be at St. Philip Neri Cemetery, Columbus Twp., Mich.
