Everett Earl "Sonny" Spicer's Obituary
Everett Earl “Sonny” Spicer, 91, of Marine City passed away peacefully February 15, 2023. He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia; daughter Sandra; grandchildren Shane (Jenni) Smith, Shawn DuVall; Great-grandchildren Everett Smith and Robert DuVall. He is preceded in death by his parents Theodore & Lottie Spicer; brothers Robert, Kenneth & Richard Spicer; son-in-law Robert DuVall; dear friend Gord Faucher, as well as several other special friends.
Sonny was born in Marine City on November 17, 1931 to Luther and Lottie Spicer. Losing his father at an early age, Sonny worked shoveling coal on the freighters to help earn money for his family. After graduating from Marine City High School, he went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War, from 1952-1954. He met Patricia Jolin and they were married at St Mary’s Catholic Church in July of 1957. After his military service, he worked dutifully from 1957-1967 as a Detroit City Police Officer. Upon moving back to Marine City, he opened the first car wash and delivered for Lakes Cleaners. In 1974, he opened Pages Party Store, where he operated for 26 years serving the community and making his well-known Sonny’s Subs.
Sonny was an avid outdoorsman, serving as secretary at the Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club for many years. He enjoyed duck hunting, snowmobiling, cutting grass, spending time with family and socializing in his garage with friends. He had a great work ethic, and put others' needs before his own. Sonny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His contagious laugh and generous heart will be missed by all.
Cremation arrangements with Young Funeral Home, China Township. A celebration of life will take place at the Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club on Monday, June 19th starting at 2 p.m. With military honors being conducted at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.
