Evelyn M. Shurkey's Obituary
Evelyn M. Shurkey, age 87, died May 10, 2011 in Marwood Manor Nursing Home. She was born May 27, 1923 in North Dakota, to William and Ella Wittkopp. Evelyn married Paul G. Shurkey on May 15, 1945 in Seattle, Washington. She worked for many years at Vacumet in St. Clair.
She is survived by her children; Pauletta (Bob) Pickelhaupt, Port Huron, David (Penny) Shurkey and Howard (Arlene) Shurkey all of St. Clair. Daughter's in law; Gloria Shurkey of Port Huron and Linda Shurkey of Greenville, S.C. Her grandchildren; Angie (Donnie) Mayberry, Joe Shurkey, Jeff (Diane) Shurkey and Becky (David) Hottinger, Bob (Cherie) Pickelhaupt, Dan (Melody), Kevin, Jim, Michael (Vanessa), Jason, Kim and Joanie Shurkey. Rose (Cid) Queener and Mandy (Jason) Romzek. Great grandchildren; Sara and Regina Mayberry, Jordan, Shelby and Quinton Pickelhaupt, Tabitha and Jacob Queener, Matthew and Kayla Hottinger and Jared, Sadie, Krista, Connor, Alex, Zander and Tavin Shurkey and Cami Romzek. She is also survived by sisters Vi and Doris and their families and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Paul G. Shurkey, Sept. 18, 2001, sons Paul J., March 17, 2007, Donald G., October 13, 2007 and William P. Feb. 17, 2008, sisters Lorraine and Marcy, brother Donald, and her parents.
Funeral service will be held Friday May 13th at 12:00 noon at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours are Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. Memorials may be made to Marwood Nursing and Rehab.
The family would like to Thank Dr. Souphis and everyone at Marwood Manor who touched Evelyn's life in any way. She was always treated with dignity and compassion. A special thank you to all of the staff on "E" Wing. You are all very special people.
