Eugene Michlewicz's Obituary
Eugene Michlewicz, age 93, of Saint Clair passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 27, 1923 to Walter and Mary Michlewicz. Eugene married Dolores Kustra on September 10, 1955. Through 58 years of marriage, the couple had two children and six grandchildren whose lives were enriched immeasurably by Dolores and Eugene.
Eugene served bravely during World War II as a tank destroyer on the front lines with the United States Army from March 19, 1943 until his honorable discharge on February 5, 1946. Among other honors, Eugene was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze battle stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Overseas Service Bar, and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war, he worked as an engineer for General Motors in Warren, MI for over 50 years. Eugene was a hardworking and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He played an integral role in the lives of his six grandchildren, giving to them selflessly and eagerly. Similar to others in The Greatest Generation, Eugene was a man of extraordinary courage, immense drive, and uncompromising devotion to his family that was abundantly apparent to all who knew him.
Eugene is survived by his son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Jean Michlewicz; son-in-law, John Broderick; six grandchildren, Stefanie Broderick (Brian Treusch), Bernadette “Beanya” Broderick (Arthur Suits), John Broderick, Josef Broderick, Hannah Broderick, Milena Michlewicz; and countless beloved relatives and friends. Eugene is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Michlewicz, and his daughter, Denise Broderick.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Young Funeral Home, 4061 St. Clair Highway, East China, MI 48054. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 17 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Saint Clair with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Eugene will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
