Elmer Robert Wolf's Obituary
Elmer Robert Wolf, age 82, of Los Angeles, CA, died November 6, 2014 after a long battle with leukemia. He was born July 5, 1932 in Detroit and spent his “growing up” years on the family farm in Fair Haven. He graduated from Marine City High School in 1951.
Elmer lived most of his adult life in Los Angeles, where he was employed as a skilled welder in a variety of industries. Before settling in California Elmer served two years in the Army during the Korean War. In the service, he was an anti-aircraft armament instructor and, notably, participated in operations focused on nuclear weapons testing in the Nevada desert, including the first time a nuclear artillery shell was fired from an “atomic cannon”. It is unfortunate, but likely, that it was radiation exposure following the nuclear detonations which brought about a delayed onset of the leukemia that took his life.
Elmer is survived by sister-in-law Carol (Ward) Wolf and Norine (Wissman) Wolf; by nieces Debra Fletcher, Laura Buria and Brenda Edwards; and by nephews David, Randy and Calvin Wolf. He was preceded in death by his parents Otto D. and Frances (Koehler) Wolf; by his brothers Otto ad Herbert Wolf; and by his nephew Donn Wolf.
A graveside committal service will be held at noon on April 30, 2016 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, 6745 Palms Rd., Fair Haven, Mich. Local arrangements by Young Funeral Home. Visit on line guest registry at youngcolonial.com
