Elmer D. Shirkey's Obituary
Elmer D. Shirkey, age 80, of Port Huron formerly of St. Clair, died January 22, 2017. Elmer was born in Detroit to the late Elmer C. and Nellie Shirkey on August 23, 1936. On August 24, 1957 Elmer married Marsha Foss. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Elmer retired as Sergeant with the St. Clair Police Department following 28 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren.
Elmer is survived by his children, Doug (Deb) Shirkey, Dave (Paula) Shirkey and Dawn (Rich) Stone; grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Amy, Michael, April, Rodney and Zach; great grandson, Jaxson; sister, Geraldine (Ed) Draves; brother, Clarence (Ginny) Shirkey and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Shirkey; son, Daniel Shirkey; grandson, Travis Stone and brother, Leo Shirkey.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Dr. Mark Hamilton, Heartland Hospice and McLaren Port Huron for their compassionate care of their father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held Friday January 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. with Chaplain Max Amstutz officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Thursday 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to service. Serving as pallbearers are Doug and Danny Shirkey, Dave and Michael Shirkey and Rich and Dawn Stone.
