Elizabeth Vargo's Obituary
Elizabeth Vargo, age 98, of East China, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022. She was born in Port Huron on April 14, 1924 to the late Julius and Anna Hock. Elizabeth married Stephen Vargo in Toledo, OH on October 6, 1945, who preceded her in death on February 15, 2005. At age 45, Elizabeth went to St. Clair County Community College for nurses training. She went on to work as a licensed practical nurse for 25 years. She began her career at Faith Medical, East China and later worked for Evangelical Home, Port Huron where she retired. Following retirement, she worked at the Chocolate Harbor, St. Clair with her family for 15 years. In her spare time Elizabeth volunteered at the schools in parent organization. She also was a volunteer on the election board, East China for many years.
She is survived by her children, Anthony (Mary) Vargo, Thomas (Kate) Vargo, Timothy (Kelly) Vargo, 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Dean Vargo, brothers, Eugene, Joseph, and Julius Hock; sisters, Helen Kelsey, and Mary Lozono.
Visitation will be Friday, June 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home China Twp. following the visitation, family and friends will meet at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron at 2:30 p.m. for committal prayers in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
