Eileen Theresa Cook's Obituary
Eileen Theresa Cook, 83, of St. Clair, formerly of Richmond, MI, and LaGrange, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 18, 2021. Eileen is survived by her children Tom (Stephanie) Cook of Idaho; Tracy (Dave) Stimpson of Colorado; Todd (Heather) Cook of Illinois. She was the proud and beloved grandmother to Bryant (Leah) Cook, Kyle (engaged to Lauren Minkina) Stimpson, Maddie Cook, Jake Cook, and Mackenzie Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete (February 13, 1988), brother Melvin Westrick, and sister-in-law Karen Foss. She was born January 8, 1938 in St. Clair, MI, to Harvey and Agnes Westrick. Eileen was the third of eight siblings: Melvin (Margaret) Westrick, Richard (Lorraine) Westrick, Gerald (Susan) Westrick, Leroy (Marcia) Westrick, Leona (Bill) Moran, Harvey Jr. (Elena) Westrick, and Mary (Ron) Distelrath. She had numerous nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with their respective families. Eileen was a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Marine City, MI. She married Marine City native Merritt “Pete” Cook on December 30, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She regularly attended mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clair, MI. Eileen was a career-minded, independent woman. Early in her professional life she worked at Michigan Bell as a telephone operator, but for most of her career she worked as an optician and office manager at Fraser Optical in Richmond, MI. Eileen had a zest for life and lived an active lifestyle. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, could be frequently seen at family sporting events, enjoyed playing cards, and loved to dance. She was a dedicated volunteer in U.S. presidential campaigns and inspired people to exercise their right to vote. She also loved playing golf and traveling.
Eileen will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Richmond Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow that day from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Pine Shores Golf Course, St. Clair.
