Edward J. Draves' Obituary
Edward J. Draves, age 94, of Manistee, formerly of Casco Twp., passed away September 18, 2018 with his loving family at his side. He was born January 2, 1924 in Casco Twp. to the late Edward and Jessie Draves. On December 2, 1950 Edward married Geraldine Shirkey in Marine City. She preceded him in death February 18, 2018.
Ed had a passion for working hard and helping others. He farmed in Casco Twp. and later drove truck for W.H. Froh in New Haven for over 35 years. Following his retirement he and his wife moved to Manistee, where he worked for another 18 years at Manistee Golf and Country Club. In his spare time Ed loved working in his woods in Manistee, keeping it groomed to perfection. He was also a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Casco Twp.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Linda LaCroix (Brett Mercer); grandchildren, Annette LaCroix, Julie LaCroix and Jon LaCroix (Jason Haigh); great grandchildren, Samantha (Dylan) Hinkle, Autumn Rae LaCroix (Cole Sanders) and Elijah LaCroix; great great grandchildren, Darian, Riley Rae and Daniel Hinkle and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Palmer Draves, Evelyn Reed, Gertrude Draves and Ruth Faulkner.
Visiting hours are Friday September 21st from 2 to 7:30 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. concluding with a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. A Memorial Luncheon will be held in Manistee at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Michigan Humane Society or Hospice of Michigan.
