Ed and I developed a friendship in High School as we both shared the passion for motorcycles--not only for riding them, but for tearing them down and rebuilding them. Through our HS years we worked together at times on his dads chicken farm to make money to buy motorcycle parts and eventually newer and bigger Hondas. An added benefit of working on the Chicken farm was all the eggs we could sneak out of there on halloween so we could egg anyone for a prank.
We lost touch after graduation, but I was able to reconnect a few times through the years and I always enjoyed being with Ed.
Through the advent of Facebook we were able to connect over the internet these past few years and our paths came close to crossing in 2014 while he was riding the Route 66 tour and we were heading to Seattle.
Ed planned to come to Florida and visit with us on his return trip home from the 2015 Route 66 tour, but his accident changed those plans.
He called me during his recovery from that accident and we spoke at length about how lucky he was not receiving more injuries than he did, and that we never know what tomorrow can bring so we should try to show our love every day for the ones we care for.
That was the last time I spoke with Ed, but we exchanged messages these past few months. My heart is heavy that my friend is gone, but the memory of him lives on in my head. If there is an afterlife---I hope I get to meet up with Ed again some day.
