Edith Angela Walker's Obituary
Edith Angela Walker, affectionately known to all as “Angie,” decided it was time to take her final bow on August 23, 2025, passing naturally in her home at the age of 77. Born in the heart of the holler, Mammoth, West Virginia, on January 19, 1948, Angie arrived ready to make some noise – and she certainly did.
Angie was the undisputed matriarch, the gravitational pull that kept her family orbiting close. She raised five driven children, and her grandchildren knew weekend mornings meant one thing: a breakfast feast. Pancakes and bacon, anyone? Her kitchen was the original five-star restaurant, serving up down-home fixings that could cure any ailment and fill any belly. And let’s be clear: she held the patent on the best no-bake cookie recipe in the world. Her homemade scratch biscuits and gravy? A closely guarded secret, coveted by all. Pinto beans and cornbread, chicken and dumplings – these weren't just meals; they were her way of wrapping you in comfort and making sure you felt truly cared for.
Beyond the kitchen, Angie was a force of nature in the stands. She was the original "Friday Night Lights" super fan, traveling far and wide for hockey, football, and volleyball games. Her voice, a certain decibel reading all its own, could often be heard cheering (or, let's be honest, coaching) above the crowd, sometimes even when she was the only one in her section.
When she wasn't orchestrating family gatherings or dominating the sidelines, Angie found her tribe with the "Hot Tub Club," a group of phenomenal women who annually descended upon South Carolina. Those beach trips to Myrtle Beach were legendary, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a bond she cherished deeply.
Anyone who spent significant time with Angie undoubtedly has a mental "playback list" of memories. She had a voice that could give Patsy Cline a run for her money, always humming and singing to her own delightful tune. Her laugh? Contagious enough to start an epidemic of joy. She was a ride-or-die defender, fiercely loyal, and would stand by you until the very end. For many, she wasn't just a mom to her own; she was the neighborhood mom, dispensing wisdom, comfort, and an open door for anyone needing a little extra care or guidance.
Angie knew the meaning of hard work and instilled that grit into her children. She was strong, passionate, and loved with every fiber of her being. She also possessed an unparalleled sense of humor and patience, evidenced by her nearly 60-year marriage to our dad, Jerry. (We're still not sure how she put up with him, but we're eternally grateful she did!) Her children often remarked that they are the individuals they are today because she showed them exactly what not to do, and more importantly, what to build upon.
Angie’s vibrant spirit, her unwavering love, and her legendary cooking will be profoundly missed by her family, close friends, and her beloved English Retriever, Molly. She was predeceased by her parents, her late husband Jerry, her son Michael (survived by Corie), and her brother Sam. Her love, laughter, and cherished traditions will live on through her devoted family: sons Todd (Lisa), Matt, and Jason (Shannon); daughter Nikki (Chad); her nine grandchildren: Anthony (Kristen), Alex (Kelly), Savannah (Reed), Sierra (Curtis), Hunter (Shelby), Aiden, Kaylen, Nicholas, and Kennedy; her great-grandbaby Lauren (with Cameron Michael on the way!), as well as her sister, brothers, many nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law.
We invite you to join us in remembrance of Angie’s vibrant life at Young-Colonial Funeral Home, 4061 St. Clair Hwy. in East China, MI. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours will be Saturday, September 6th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday one hour prior to the service.
In her memory, charitable donations can be made to Ronald McDonald’s House Charities for the Detroit House. The RMHC provides a place to call ‘home’ for families with sick children. It helps them physically, economically, and emotionally during their health journey, reducing stress and financial burden.
