Dorothy Ann Stephenson's Obituary
Dorothy A. Stephenson, age 98, of Marine City, passed away peacefully in her home on November 29, 2022. Dorothy was born December 14, 1923 in St. Clair to the late A.J. and Mabel Zaetsch. On October 17, 1942. Dorothy married George E. Stephenson Jr. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Early in her working career Dorothy was a hairdresser before working for 20 years at the Detroit Gasket. Her role as a homemaker was what she enjoyed most. She was very active with her church, Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, St. Agatha Circle #419, Alter Society and the funeral luncheon committee. Dorothy was an election worker with the City of Marine City, a former 4-H leader and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club. She also enjoyed baking pies for the Holy Cross Harvest Dinner and the Old Newsboys. Dorothy always looked forward to her many trips up north to the cabin, where she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and deer hunting, right up to the age of 97. What Dorothy loved most was her time and stories she shared with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Victor (Bernadette) Stephenson and John (Theresa) Stephenson; daughter in law, Beth Stephenson; grandchildren, Wendy (Julian) Younger, Bernadette (Jeffrey) Nowicki, Anna Stephenson (Angie), George IV (Carrie) Stephenson, Jeremy Stephenson, John Jr. (Janae) Stephenson, Michael (Lisa) Stephenson, and Jennifer (Preston) Langford; great grandchildren, George V (Hayley), Riley, Jasmine, Dylan, Michael Jr., Savannah, Blaine, Beau and Walter; great granddaughter, Blair; sister, Wanetta DeMars and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her son, George Stephenson III and step-father, George Gibbs and siblings, William, Bernard, Morris and Marion.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, OLR Parish. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday December 8th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary recital at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Friday 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at church.
