Doris L. Silk's Obituary
Doris L. Silk, age 87, died March 17, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born on November 24, 1924 in St. Clair Township to the late Carl and Mary Welser. Doris graduated from St. Clair High School in 1943.
She married Howard Silk on May 17, 1947 in St. Clair. They were married for 63 years before he preceded her in death on May 11, 2010.
Together Doris and Howard owned and operated Silk's Flower Shop in St. Clair for over 25 years. Following their retirement, they enjoyed traveling, but Doris was very content to stay close to her family, have a great picnic and play croquet with the grandkids. She was a quiet woman with many talents, but she never looked for accolades and never complained, she just did what needed to be done and has been an inspiration to us all.
She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Clair, and was very active in the Alter Guild, Ladies Aid, and the Quilters Group. She also taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.
She is survived by her children; Norman Silk of Detroit, Jan Silk of Port Huron and Kathy (Denny) Hillman of Port Huron and granddaughters, Heather and Megan Hillman. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Thelma Welser, Susan Welser and Lucille Welser and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends Loretta Lukasak and Donna and Bob Kennedy.
She was preceded in death by her sister Edna and five brothers, Herb, Elmer, Walter, Clarence and George Welser.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair.
Pallbearers will be her nephews. Visiting hours are Sunday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Monday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to service.
