My most sincere condolences to the family of Mickey McWain on his passing. Mickey was a very stalwart member of the SCFD and his devotion and dedication to the FD is only surpassed by his love of the city and citizens that he devoted his lifetime of service to.. My father Roy considered Mickey to be like a brother to him, as they both served in the Fire Dept for decades, served on retired status together, populated that retired coffee table together, as well as working together at the Diamond Crystal Salt Co. They are now together again as 'Stubby' joins with open arms the ranks of all those dedicated St. Clair Fire Fighters who have gone to heaven before him.. 'Back in the day', all those who were serving St. Clair were part of a Brotherhood and had a special bond and commitment to each other. Mick was the bedrock foundation of that Brotherhood. He was always admired and respected, because Mick was speaking with common sense, and with authority and knowledge. Mick was loved by all who knew him.. 'Stubby' might have been short in stature, but he truly was a giant of a man who threw a huge shadow, a shadow that everyone who knew and loved him were humbled to walk in.. Mick showed everyone grace, dignity, and respect and by his actions, we who walked in his shadow became better people. While we are saddened of Stubby's passing, and of your huge loss, we can rejoice in that he is now sitting on the right hand of God, in the loving arms of his wife Carol and son Donnie [Mick Jr] who he loved very much, and also surrounded by all his deceased SCFD brothers ... I know my father, who loved Mickey like a brother, would be extremely happy to be reunited together again in Heaven with his old friend... I've personally known and admired Mickey McWain for about 60 of my 67 yrs on this earth, and I have always known him to be a man of impeccable character and of the utmost in integrity who is respectful to others while receiving that same level of respect in return. A man of honesty, truthfulness, wisdom, and dignity. In the mid-'70's I served a short term on the SCFD and when being trained and instructed by Stubby, he exhibited great patience and understanding, in such as a family friend would. I live in Wisconsin now, and when hearing of your loss of Mick, my heart broke, as he will always be a giant of a man to me, a rock.... I witnessed Mick's love and humanity when he visited my father prior to my dad's passing, and as Mick left, he had a large tear in his eye, as he knew he was probably saying goodbye forever to his longtime friend and brother, but when leaving, he also gave us warm words of strength to get by during the difficult times that were coming.. That was Stubby, a man of both passion and strength. Mickey 'Stubby' McWain will be greatly missed by all who knew him.... He was a very special person. I am so very sorry for your loss, as the world is now a sad place without this wonderful man who graced our presence.. Rest In Peace Stubby..... Ed Thueme
