Donald A. Diem Jr.'s Obituary
Donald A. Diem Jr., age 61, of East China Twp., died January 29, 2017. He was born January 10, 1956, to Donald Diem Sr. and Dorothy Recor Diem.
Don grew up in St. Clair, and spent his childhood on the Big River, in his close-knit neighborhood. He also had lots of fun and adventures with his brother, sister and cousins on their grandparents farm in China Township.
Don was a dedicated employee for Chicago Bridge & Iron for over 30 years, working as an industrial tank painter.
Don’s nieces and nephews adored him. Sometimes, due to his employment, they would not see him for a year or two at a time. But he always remembered them, sending postcards from the places he visited. And when he came home, he brought thoughtful gifts for them from around the world. But even more special, was the gift of himself, showing his love for them while just being there, hanging out. He was very generous and thoughtful. If he had the means, he would always help anyone in need. Don made many friends around the world and touched many hearts.
A couple years ago Don retired to his home on a peaceful little spot on the Belle River. His best times there were spent with good friends who dropped by, deer and birds he shared the land with and his good buddy, Tank.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and is survived by his brother, Harry Diem (China Twp.); sister, Barbara Bradley (U.P.); nieces and nephews, Nick Diem, Gabriel Caplett, Aura Nelson, and Anna Bradley; great niece, Violet Diem; great nephew, River Nelson; aunts, Jacqueline Scarborough, Harrietta Ryan and Marianna Hamlin; many cousins, friends and his dog, Tank.
Donnie will be missed by everyone he touched. Rest in peace brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 25th at 12:00 p.m. with visitation from 11 to 12 prior to service at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Following the service a luncheon will be served at the American Legion Hall, St. Clair.
