Delbert Arthur Fordt's Obituary
Delbert Arthur Fordt, age 85, of Richmond, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving family at his side on November 11, 2024.
Delbert was born June 7, 1939 in Casco Twp. to the late Arthur and Erma Fordt. On October 17, 1959 Delbert married Phyllis Berkey at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Casco Twp. and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Phyllis preceded him in death on July 27, 2023.
Delbert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Delbert was a drywall finisher his entire working career until age 78. He was also a member of the Painter’s Union. Delbert was a longtime active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Casco.
Delbert was a local softball legend and was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame because of his pitching dominance. Delbert was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He and Phyllis lived in Onaway, Michigan for 20 years on 158 acres. This property was Delbert’s paradise. Delbert’s family and friends will carry the memories of ‘up north’ visits close to their hearts for many years.
Delbert’s was so proud of his family. He loved attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. Delbert will be remembered by his family as a hard-working, patriotic man of great faith as he leaves behind a wonderful legacy.
Delbert is survived by his sons and daughters in law, Vince and Patricia Fordt and Scott and Collene Fordt; grandchildren, Heather (Brian), Brent (Heather Jean), Shelby (Brett), Justain (Stacy), Ryan (Karie), Zachary (Dakota) and Lucas (Breanna); great grandchildren, Arianna, Kendall, Alexa, Brooklyn, Corbyn, Blakely, Garret, Riley, Henry, Harper and Elise; brother, Dennis Fordt; sister, Susan Menkel and several nieces and nephews.
Delbert was predeceased by his son, Darrin and siblings, Arnold Fordt, Donald Fordt and Anna (Phillip) Furtah.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Casco Twp. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at church prior to service.
