Deborah (Stricker) Sommerville's Obituary
Deborah (Stricker) Sommerville, 72, of East China, would like to let you know her work here is done. She received a call on August 24, 2023 with an offer she couldn’t refuse. The assignment comes with great benefits and a reunion with her beloved family, friends and furry companions that she has not seen in a long time.
Deb was born on February 11th, 1951, to the late Reuben and Dorothy Stricker and preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Stricker. She was a graduate of Armada High School, class of 1969. Following high school, she attended Ferris State University and graduated with a degree in Advertising. After college, she started working at the Co-Op in Richmond. Later, she supported many family business ventures with her husband, John Sommerville.
Deb married the love of her life, John Sommerville, on January 24th, 1976. The two of them enjoyed a wonderful 47 years of marriage. They loved spending time with family and friends as well as together while boating on Lake St. Clair. In recent years, they enjoyed winters down in The Villages, Florida. Whether in St. Clair or in the Villages, “5 o’clock” cocktail hour was always in order.
She will forever be remembered for her loving personality, attention to detail, and organizational skills. She will be missed dearly by her husband, John, and beloved furry companion, Harley; her nephew, John (Michelle) Stricker; her niece, Jillian (James) Manchik and their children, Olivia, Stella and Clara; her sister-in-law, Jackie Stricker; her step-son, Todd (Stephanie) Sommerville and their son, Matthew (Whitney) her step-daughter, Amy (Tripp) Limehouse and their children, Megan, Allison and Camryn; her close friends, Annie and Brian Teltow and their children-who knew her as “Nama”, Madie, Kenzie and Kate; her brother’s-in-law, Dave (Nancy) Sommerville, Jeff (Pam) Sommerville, Jim (Debbie) Sommerville, and Tom Sommerville; as well as loving cousins, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.
Our family invites you to celebrate Deb’s life with a visitation that will take place from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday August 31st at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with a luncheon to immediately to follow at the Voyageur Restaurant for family and friends.
