Cheryl Lynn Beattie's Obituary
Cheryl Lynn Beattie, age 54, entered eternal life on October 31, 2014 after battling nearly four-years with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Cheryl lived in Casco, Michigan. She was born on July 28, 1960 in Port Huron, Michigan.
Cheryl is survived by her parents John and Marilyn Beattie; a sister Christa Beattie (Craig Gaedcke and his children Anthony, Camden, and Nathan); a brother Mark Beattie (Paula); a niece Ashley, and a nephew Robert, as well as many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Cheryl graduated from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, Michigan as a Registered Nurse. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University in Health Sciences. Cheryl served as a nurse for over 30 years caring for people in a variety of capacities. Cheryl’s true calling was hospice nursing, where she ministered to many patients and their families. During her nursing career, she divided her time between Michigan and Georgia. She considered herself a part-time Southerner as evidenced by her love for bluegrass music and grits. Cheryl was an avid animal lover and boat nerd. She enjoyed biking, travel, and spent many hours connecting with friends and family on her iPad. Cheryl faced her grim diagnosis with faith, good cheer, and stubborn gladness. She found joy every day in the simple things. She was a true example to those around her, and God’s grace shined through her each and every day.
It was a true blessing to Cheryl, and to her family, that the hospice care she received over the last several months was provided by many of her dear personal friends and colleagues. Her family expresses their deep gratitude to the staff at Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
