Charles William Muggelberg's Obituary
Charles William Muggelberg, loving husband, devoted father, born September 07, 1942, to Edward Charles Muggelberg and Francis Marie (Zuehl) Muggelberg in Saint Clair Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members on November 07, 2023, at the age of 81.
Being a lifelong resident of Saint Clair, he was known to many as “Chuck,” “Charlie,” and “Muggs” or “Mugzie,” but to his sisters he was always “Charles.” He graduated Saint Clair High school in 1961 and being a religious man, centering his life on Christ, it was a church event that brought Chuck to meet, fall in love and marry his wife of 59 years, Judith Ann (Crenshaw) Muggelberg.
Charles is survived by his wife, Judith, children: Charles Edward (Dianna Sprague) Muggelberg, Nancy Lynn (Wayne Baltimore) Muggelberg, sister: H. Doris (late Tom) Grant, brother in law: Jim (Sandy) Crenshaw, sister in law: Janet (late Ron) Nedrow, grandchildren: Danielle Madden, Heather Muggelberg and Gabrielle (Jacob) Muggelberg, Kyle (Ali Murray) McMannus, Ryan McMannus, nephews: Ed (Deb) Reed, Tom (Jane) Grant, niece Lee Ann Greenshields, cousin Clara Westrick, great grandchildren: Damien and Serenity Madden, James Charles Richter, Reagan, Jesse, and Jayce Murray.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Edward (Francis) Muggelberg, sisters Marion (Bill) Reed, Jeanie (Jim) Shovan, in-laws Jim (Sada) Crenshaw, cousins Francis (Nate) Walker, Ralph (Linda (Bob) Quirk) Muggelberg, Bill (Donna) Muggelberg.
Post graduation, Charles went out in the world to work at many jobs starting with Huron Screw Company, Thermo Tank Inc., doing sheet metal prototype for Stylecraft Industries, and finished with a 32 plus years at Chrysler Corporation’s Dodge Truck Assembly Plant where he retired in March 2004. At Dodge Truck he did windshield, and back-glass assembly, and later, trimline repairs. Most of his working years, Chuck worked a second job doing lawn care for Tony Sadlowski’s clients at the North end of Saint Clair and chauffeured members to school for the Fisher-Insley and Doc Bier families. Some of the jobs were paid and most were just Chuck helping friends, family and acquaintances with home repairs, interior house painting, moving to new homes and lawn maintenance, doing whatever he could do to lend a hand.
In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed photography, loved classic cars, hunting, fishing, planting, and maintaining a robust garden. Committed to service, he ushered for worship services from his confirmation to the present day, rarely missing a Sunday even during his illness. He also volunteered to trailer boxes up to North Lakeport Weslyn Church for Immanuel’s Lunch Box Program, and making the Sauerkraut for the annual dinner which he worked packing the “to go” meals. As a member of the Perch Point Conservation Club, he volunteered to tend bar for weddings and rental events, he also worked in their kitchen providing meals on Sunday afternoons. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, #3702, and the American Legion Post #382, where he served on the food line for monthly fish dinners, assisted with work projects and other events within the community. Chuck enjoyed a long and good life with many friends, a loving family, and a hugely supportive and caring church family at Immanuel.
