Charles L. Berndt's Obituary
Charles L. Berndt, age 79, of North Street passed away August 15, 2022. He was born June 21, 1943, in Detroit to the late Walter and Shirley Berndt.
Charles served his country with the United States Army where he was stationed in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. While he was there, he found a love for Arizona and would regularly take trips back to the state in the winter months. He lived most of his life in Plymouth, and supported his family through his work at Burroughs/Unisys Corporation. After his first wife Joanne passed away, he married his second wife Marilyn and enjoyed moving to the Port Huron area, where he had spent time as a child. He enjoyed being with his friends at the Voyageur Restaurant in St. Clair.
He was always there with a helping had to others. He enjoyed building, working, and fixing things. Above all, he expressed his love for his two wives, serving as their caregiver when they were battling health issues.
Charles is survived by his children, Holly (Raymond Hilu) Berndt-Hilu, Jill (Scott) Tucker, Kristen (Charlie) Proctor; grandchildren, Charles Hilu, Hayden, Hannah Tucker, Charles (Mariah), Tyler, Baylee, Bryar Proctor; great granddaughter, Payton Proctor; sisters, Carol Haggerty, Sherry (David) Ebejer, along with several nieces, nephews and loving family members.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Berndt and second wife, Marilyn Berndt.
Visitation will take place on Thursday August 18, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. located at 4061 St. Clair Hwy. China Twp., Michigan 48054. A Memorial Service will be held Friday August 19, 2022, at 12:00pm at Young Funeral Home China Twp. along with visitation from 11:00am on Friday until time of service.
