Catherine E. Witherspoon's Obituary
Catherine E. Witherspoon, age 90, of East China Twp., formerly of Dearborn, passed away peacefully in her home on December 27, 2016. She was born May 7, 1926 in Forest, Ontario to the late James and Agnes Hubbard. Catherine married Thomas C. Witherspoon July 6, 1946. He preceded her in death in 2014.
Catherine graduated from Forest High School in 1944. She was a volunteer for over 60 years for the American Red Cross. Catherine was involved with her home parish, St. Alphonsus in Dearborn for many years. She was a great friend and helper to many people in her neighborhood and parish. Her greatest love was her family and spending time with them. She moved with her husband from Dearborn to Mallard’s Landing in 2013 where they had loving care by the staff.
She is survived by sons, Thomas Witherspoon Jr. of Crawfordsville, IN and Timothy (Therese) Witherspoon of St. Clair; grandchildren, Tim, Mary and John Witherspoon; great granddaughter, Zoey; sister, Genevieve Street of Marine City and many nieces and nephews.
Catherine was predeceased by a sister, Winifred (Gord) Zakoor; brother, Robert (Carmel) Hubbard and brother in law, Walter Street Sr.
Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday January 3rd at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Our Lady on the River Parish, Marine City. Interment will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Forest, Ontario. Visiting hours are Monday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. rosary recital at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Additional visitation will be Tuesday at the church one hour prior to mass.
Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross or the Solanus Casey Center.
