STIEFVATER, Carole Lynn. (nee; Sommerfield), of East China passed away on May 5, 2025 at the age of 79.
Carole Lynn Stiefvater was born on February 24, 1946 in Highland Park to Irvin and Loretta (nee; Hetzner) Sommerfield.

Carole grew up in a loving home. She worked for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan for 21 years. Happiest day of her life was when she met her future husband. In their 42 years, they lived in Florida for 20 years and Tennessee for 5 years before returning to Michigan. Both Al and Carole enjoyed being by the St. Clair River so it was only appropriate that they settled in East China.
In their travels they loved the northeast states the best. They enjoyed visiting historical sites – both Revolutionary War and Civil War as well as churches and old cemeteries.
Carole was an avid sports fan. She could talk both professional and college sports and hold her own.
Reading was a favorite hobby and the Bible was her favorite book. She and Al used to quiz each other. Carole also enjoyed crafts and playing cards with friends.
Carole’s last 6+ years she lived in Lourdes Senior Community at Mendelson Assisted Living in Waterford. She was very active and participated in every activity they offered, making many friends along the way.
