Carl Erwin Pollex's Obituary
Carl Erwin Pollex, 91, of Houston, Texas passed away on April 28, 2026 in Plano, Texas.
Carl was born on March 1, 1935 in St. Clair, Michigan to Erwin and Evelyn Pollex.
He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1953 and then attended Valparaiso University for 3 years. Following marriage to Gwendolyn Hauge, he attended Western Michigan, earning a degree in business. Carl then served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. His first job after the army was with Mueller Brass in Port Huron, subsequently transferring him to Houston, Texas where he made his home for the next 64 years. He thoroughly adopted Houston as his hometown, but also had a special love for Galveston (!) and Louisiana. He transferred into the air conditioning business as a manufacturer’s representative, eventually starting his own company, Carl E Pollex company. Carl was a staple in the air conditioning business, known for his salesmanship and his knowledge of soldering and brazing throughout the United States.
Carl enjoyed golf, traveling, singing, driving his car, meeting new people and spending time with his children and grandchildren, who affectionately called him BooBoo. He was gifted with a beautiful tenor voice performing for years as a soloist and member of the Memorial Lutheran Church choir and also with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston. He was a faithful member of Memorial Lutheran Church for 57 years where he could be found at the church whenever there were cars in the parking lot!
He loved people, making them laugh, but also imparting wisdom that he had accumulated during his life. He was genuine, generous to a fault and was a mentor to many. He will be missed!!
Most importantly, Carl loved Jesus. Until his dying day, he would spontaneously say, “I just love Jesus!”. On the way to his (almost daily) visits to Galveston, he required his driver to stop at a church in Dickinson with a crucified Jesus over the door. He would roll down the window to yell thank you to Jesus and that He loved him for dying on the cross for him. Carl was an optimist and saw the world positively, but also in a lighthearted manner. He loved to laugh and saw funny things in everyday occurrences.
Carl is survived by his children Creighton (Tracey) of Hastings, MN and Rozzie (TD) of Plano, TX;, daughter-in-law Lorie of Houston TX and. grandchildren: Tommy (Melody), Drew (Laura), Tory (Erick), Dani (Luke), Perry, Cayden: and his great-grandchildren: Hudson, Veda, Calvin, Heidi, Harvey and Clayton. He is also survived by nephews Dan and James Ellison.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Alice and Harriet (Whiff), brothers in law Jim and Patrick, his former wife, Gwen and his son, Roger.
A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery Chapel in St Clair on June 2, 2026 at 10:00 am.
