Bill Hoogerwerf's Obituary
Bill Hoogerwerf, age 98, of Marine City, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2021, with his loving family at his side. Bill was born July 29, 1922, in Velsen, Netherland to the late Theodore and Gertrude Hoogerwerf.
Bill graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1940 and then worked for the Ford Motor Company as an apprentice tool and die maker. He proudly served from 1943 to 1946 with the U.S. Navy during World War II where he received extensive training to work on PT Boats. Following the war, Bill worked for Congress Tool and Die from 1948 to 1975 and later with Budd Manufacturing from 1975 until his retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Hoogerwerf; children, Laura Gray (Larry McHaney), Cindy (John) Steffy and John (Jane) Hoogerwerf; grandchildren, Michael Mapes-Pearson, Chelsea and Josh Steffy, Ellen, Sarah, and Annie Hoogerwerf and his sister, Mary Vanderkaay.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 17th at 4:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. Urn interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
