Beverly A. Johnson's Obituary
Beverly Ann Johnson (nee Oberly), beloved wife, and mother, passed peacefully on December 1, 2024.
Bev will be forever missed by her husband and best friend Paul and their loving children Cynthia Glass (Robert) and Kimberly Johnson and grandchildren Callan Eschenburg II (Gaby), Allen VanDeWinkle, and Adam VanDeWinkle (Lydia).
Beverly was born on December 3, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Charlotte Oberly (nee Jasin). She is survived by her sisters Bernadine VanSteelant, Fran Gillespie, Sylvia DeGasperis (Marty), and brother Raymond Oberly. She was predeceased by her sisters Thelma McNamara and Jane DiGregorio, brother William Oberly, sisters-in-law Delores Oberly and Mary Oberly, brothers-in-law Jerry Gillespie, Ed VanSteelant, Jim McNamara, and Frank DiGregorio.
Beverly entered the Sisters of St. Joseph convent at age 16 and graduated from Nazareth College and later earned a Master’s Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. She taught 15 years in the order Sisters of St. Joseph. She married Paul on July 14, 1982 and they shared a wonderful life together building their dream home on the waterfront, boating, traveling around the world, and spending time with family and friends. After retirement as an early elementary teacher for 25 years in Warren Consolidated Schools, her dear friend Gloria taught her to knit and she created beautiful hats, shawls, and afghans for her family and friends. She spent her final months at home watching the ships on the St. Clair River. She will be dearly missed.
The Johnson family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many friends, family, and loved ones who shared visits and words of comfort and prayers during Bev's last months. Special appreciation to "Bev's Angels" Blanca, Gaby, Heather, Jill, Kim, Sue, Teresa, Ruth, and Vanessa and to all the staff and nurses at Compassus Hospice including Chaplain Gregory.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21 at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Memorial gathering will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Baltimore at a later date.
