Betty Jane Markel's Obituary
Betty Jane Markel, age 89, of Marine City, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2017. She was born January 22, 1928 in Cottrellville Twp. to the late Paul and Anna Misany.
On January 24, 1947 Betty married the love of her life, Donald Markel, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Donald preceded her in death on April 24, 2013.
Betty and Donald owned and operated Markel’s Egg Factory for over 22 years. She also formerly worked at the Detroit Gasket and was a cook at Palms Elementary School. Betty also loved to bake and cook at home. Betty and Donald spent many Sundays going to polkas and square dances. She loved to dance with Donald and spend time with their dancing friends.
Betty is survived by children, William Markel, Daniel (Gail) Markel, Gail Pegg, Mark (Chris) Markel and Julie (Duane) Osterland; grandchildren, Travis, Trever and Becca Osterland, Sarah and Derrick Markel; special grandchild, Jessica; great grandchildren, Kelsey and Emily Markel; brother in law, Norman Markel and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her siblings, Mary, Violet, Anne, Millie, Paul, Mike, George, Joe and Fred.
Funeral mass will be Wednesday December 20th at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home and Wednesday 11:00 to 12:00 at church. A rosary will be said Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
