Mr. August Joachim Resovsky's Obituary
August “Augie” “Gus” Joachim Resovsky, age 62, of Ft. Gratiot, MI, died August 6, 2015 in a swimming accident. He was born in Detroit. He is survived by his sister, Julia Resovsky, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents August, Sr. and Virginia (Gajeski) Resovsky, an older brother, Martin, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
August graduated from Holy Cross High School, Marine City. He had a partial scholarship, and completed two years at the University of Detroit and two more years at Michigan State University, obtaining an undergraduate degree, in Political Science, with honors. After his motor vehicle accident, which left him with severe handicaps and wheelchair-bound, he went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, from Wayne State University.
Surviving a closed head injury at 22 years old, in 1974, he still participated in various activities. He was a volunteer at the Rehabilitation Institute of Detroit, where he mentored many young, newly-handicapped men. Augie played basketball from 1984-1993 in the Michigan Wheelchair Basketball Association. For many years, he joined other wheelchair-bound and handicapped people in the Annual Mackinac Bridge Walk on Labor Day. In 1986, he attended the National Head Injury Foundation’s Annual Convention/Board Meeting in Washington, D.C., as a representative from Brain Injury Association of Michigan. It was there that he spoke with Mr. James Brady, who was brain injured during the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Auguie won many medals for competitive swimming events throughout the country. He also volunteered locally with numerous organizations including Center for Independent Living, Mid-City Nutrition Soup Kitchen and the Port Huron Museum. He traveled extensively both before and after his accident. He was an avid reader, even with his eye problems, and preferred biographies and non-fiction. A photographer from age 10, he kept upgrading cameras, lenses, pods, technique, skill and was a member of the Blue Water Shutterbugs Camera Club. August was employed briefly from 1989-2003 doing date entry.
His sister, Julia, sincerely thanks all his caregivers, friends, relatives, and the special friends of Bill W. that he knew for 30 years.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday September 15th at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Huron Woods, 5221 Lakeshore Rd. Ft. Gratiot, 48059. Cremation has taken place.
