Amy Follebout's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Amy Follebout on June 12, 2025 at 61 years old. Beautiful wife to her husband of 40 years, Rob, who loved her dearly. Beloved daughter to Tom and Nancy Sugars. Cherished sister to Shawn (Jennifer) Sugars. Amy’s family was her heart. She loved every moment spent with her nephews Zach and Nate Sugars, and nieces Jessica (Daniel) Martinelli and Samantha Follebout (Austin Hare). Amy held a special place in her heart for her late nephew, Randy Sugars. She was a strong supporter of all her nieces and nephews’ activities and they loved spending time with her.
Amy dedicated her life to helping others as a compassionate substance abuse counselor with Macomb County Community Mental Health. She touched countless lives with her wisdom, kindness and empathy. She also generously used her skills in her personal life as well with any family, friends and others who needed a helping hand. Every ounce of Amy loved music – listening to a large variety of music, knowing all the words to the songs, playing her clarinet with the St Clair Community Band and Theater Guild, and volunteering her time helping the band director and students at St Clair High School.
A woman of adventure, Amy loved riding her motorcycle alongside Rob, exploring winding country roads and soaking in the beauty of the outdoors. She and Rob were avid snowmobilers, traveling across the UP by trail and back country as well. The time spent at her parents cabin in Melstrand were priceless memories. She also loved to travel to foreign locations. Amy visited Scotland and Ireland with Rob and her parents; and Italy with her mother and aunt. Amy truly enjoyed being social. She and Rob loved spending time with friends at local brew pubs, sampling craft beers and bourbons, while sharing laughter and stories with those they loved.
Amy was a true animal lover, she never met a stray cat (or any other animal) she wasn’t willing to help. Their beloved cat, Sonny, will continue to be a source of comfort to her husband, Rob.
Amy’s warmth, humor and generosity will be deeply missed by all those who knew her. She will be forever loved. Forever missed. And never, ever, forgotten.
