Albert "Butch" Bassett's Obituary
Albert “Butch” Bassett, age 85, of St. Clair, passed away April 7, 2024 at home with his loving family at his side. Butch was born September 26, 1938 in Detroit to the late Willis and Lena Bassett. At the age of 9 Butch moved to St. Clair, where he later graduated from St. Clair High School with the Class of 1956. His education continued at St. Clair Junior College, where he received his associates degree.
Butch proudly served with the U.S. Navy. On July 21, 1962 he married Patricia Kane and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Butch worked for Chrysler Corporation for 35 years. He was an avid hunter, especially deer hunting and also loved to fish. His favorite sporting events were hockey and golf. Butch was also the go to guy locally for many hockey players, as he would sharpen their skates for many years.
Butch also enjoyed traveling. Family camping trips were among his favorite along with many cruises and also the 15 years he and Pat enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona.
Socially Butch enjoyed memberships with the Port Huron Moose Lodge 158, Fraternal Order of the Eagles 3702 Port Huron, Port Huron Lodge #58 F. & A.M., and American Legion Post 449 Marysville.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Bassett; daughters, Tracy (Gary) Divinski, Sherryl (Don) Bassett and Jody (Kirk) Simpson; grandchildren, Amberly (Eric) Garrison, Mandy French and Angela (Zach) Simpson and great grandchildren, Brady, Elle and Gabe. He was predeceased by his Father in law and mother in law, Kenneth and Eleanor Kane.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Rev. Dr. G. Patrick Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Friday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m.
