Gary Joseph Grittini

October 7, 1954 - January 21, 2022

Gary Joseph Grittini, age 67, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 21, 2022. He was born October 7, 1954, in Detroit to the late Frank and Louise Grittini. He married Mary Start on April 9, 1994, Gary would say that God blessed him with his wonderful wife Mary, He often joked about the institution of marriage, the Husband-Wife jokes, but he always ended by saying that Mary was better than he deserved. Gary worked 31 years at the Roseville Post Office, 14 years as a financial adviser and 4 years as a bookkeeper at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. Gary was a baseball enthusiast, he loved being at the ballpark, Tiger Stadium, Comerica Park. He especially loved spring training in Lakeland and Sarasota, Florida. He considered himself blessed to be able to attend the Detroit Tigers Fantasy Camp and being able to play softball until the age of 63. Family was very important to Gary and loved the time he got to spend with everyone. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Grittini; sister, Mary Lynn (Greg) Filar; brothers, Rob Grittini, Tim (Linda) Grittini; mother-in-law, Louise Start; brother in laws, Robert Start, Thomas Start and Tom Pyden; 16 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Start and sister-in-law Christine Pyden. A Memorial visitation will be held Friday February 4, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. there then will be a Funeral Mass held at 12:00 p.m. the same day at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair following the visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s or ALS. The family requests that COVID-19 protocols be taken to please refrain from hugging and masks to be required.
