Ken J. Meyers

Ken J. Meyers passed into eternal life on July 25, 2014. He was the youngest of ten children, born on June 29th, 1944 to Herbert and Mabel (Distelrath) Meyers. He learned his German work ethic growing up on the family dairy farm and he continued to be a hard worker for his entire life. After graduating from St. Clair High in 1962, Ken enlisted in the US Army and served honorably in Europe during the Vietnam War. He returned to St. Clair to work with his brothers at Mark Aluminum Company selling home improvement products. He married Shirlee Anne Myles on January 26, 1968 at St. Mary’s Church. Following a successful career, he retired in 2001. Ken had a life blessed with a happy marriage, loving family, and many close friends. He enjoyed boating, camping with the “gang”, cruising on his sweet, red Harley and spending time at the family cottage in Lexington. He loved to travel and took many trips throughout the world. After retiring, he particularly enjoyed travelling by RV in the USA and had visited 49 states. In recent years, Ken and Shirlee also enjoyed the sunny winters in Naples, Florida. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years: his children Todd (Christy) Meyers of Grosse Point Shores; Julie (John) Klennert of Denver, Colorado; Corey (Kirstin) Meyers of Grosse Pointe; grandchildren Shayna, Tim and Jessica Meyers, Kate, Ben and Anne Klennert, and Elijah and Delaney Meyers. He is also survived by his sisters: Sr. Eileen Meyers, Adrian Dominican; Marie (Don) Klemmer; Marilyn (Dick) Wyllie; Dorothy (Ray) Burgess; Loretta (Gaius) Fraley; sisters-in-law Carol Meyers and Connie Jefferies and good friends Dan and Carol Smith and Ron and Beth Shevnock, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers; Edward, Robert, Don J. and Bernie and nephews; Kurt and Jason Meyers. Ken was a thirty-nine year member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2251, St. Clair, Michigan. Visiting hours with family are planned at Young Funeral Home in St. Clair on Saturday, August 2nd from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, August 3rd from 3 to 8 p.m. There will also be visiting hours on Monday, August 4th from 10 to 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair, prior to Mass. Rosary is planned for 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass in celebration of Ken’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 4th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair Memorials may be made to the Jason Meyers Memorial Foundation or a charity of the donor’s preference.
