John Daniel MacDonald

John Daniel MacDonald, age 79, of St. Clair, passed away on March 14, 2023. He was born in St. Clair on September 14, 1943 to the late John D. MacDonald and Lillian (Ward) MacDonald. John graduated from St. Clair High School, class of 1962. He married Jennifer Lee Sawher on June 25, 1966. They celebrated 56 years of marriage in 2022. John was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, St. Clair until his marriage, then he became a member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, St. Clair. He retired from DTE after working 28 years. Prior to that, John was a St. Clair Police Officer for 9 years. He continued to serve as a volunteer police officer in St. Clair for 25 years. John was very interested in his Scottish Heritage. He and Jennifer traveled to Nova Scotia where his paternal great grandparents immigrated from Scotland. They also traveled extensively throughout the Canadian Provinces as he had many ancestors residing throughout Canada. However, his most cherished trip, was when he and Jennifer took a road trip from Michigan to Alaska in 2016. John was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying nature regardless of the weather. He also enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their sporting events and special occasions. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer; children, John Daniel MacDonald III, Heidi Ann Schweihofer; grandchildren, Todd E. Schweihofer Jr., Abigail L. (Trevor) Siciliano, Erica L. Schweihofer; great grandchildren, Kennedy Rose Prisley and another expected in May; sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Bert Nunneley; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Debbie Sawher III; sister-in-law, Linda MacDonald. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian MacDonald; brother, Donald F. MacDonald; grandparents, Roy and Ella MacDonald, Perry and Minnie Ward; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Dorothy Sawher; son-in-law, Todd E. Schweihofer. A funeral service will be on Monday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday prior to the service.
